For the month of May there will be a weekly series dedicated to Young Mothers Making Moves! These women are phenomenal young mothers pursuing their dreams!

The next mother that I am honored to celebrate is

Ms. Temoura Webb and Jordynn

Please share your current job and/or degree you are seeking as well as your business endeavors and future projects!

I am currently self-employed. Purpose searching if you will. I am the owner of Bodi Glitz a handmade jewelry line created to inspire women and men to be themselves and stand out. My pieces are full of life and color and created from my heart. I feel as though God has blessed me with many talents so I am not content with just doing what I am currently doing. I want to impact the world, in a positive-uplifting way.

How has becoming a mother changed your perspective on life?

Becoming a mother has changed my perspective because I triple check every decision I make. I am her mother and every decision I make not only effects me, it affects her. It also allows me to be more appreciative of life and the little tiny blessings that we sometime overlook. My daughter sees happiness and beauty in everything which is a reminder to me to also see things the same.

What character traits do you hope to instill in your daughter?

I want my daughter to know her worth. I want her to know she is a Queen and she is beautiful just the way God created her. I want her to treat people kindly and respectfully. I don’t want her to ever give up on her dreams. She will know and belive that anything is possible. I know I won’t always be there to catch her when she falls because that’s life but I want her to have the tools that mommy equipped her with to get back up and keep going.

What women have inspired you who are also mothers?

My mother has inspired me because she was a single mother of three and always did what she had to do to provide. She had me at the age of 20, which was the same age I had my daughter so I look to her for guidance. She’s such a strong and determined woman; I love her to pieces.

Has motherhood increased your drive and what things have you accomplished in your career?

Yes, it has most certainly increased my drive. I want her to be proud of me. I want to inspire her to never give up. So I’m going to keep going till the wheels fall off.

In what way has your dughter been a blessing/added to your life?

My daughter has given me a reason, a reason to fight, a reason to conquer and a reason to live. She came at a time in my life when I needed re-direction. And I thank God for my blessing everyday.

What proud memories do you have with Jordynn ?

Some of the more recent proud moments I have with my daughter now are that she is learning to read. It makes me so proud to hear her attempt to read books and magazines at random times. She wants to learn, and that excites me.

What keeps you motivated when outside support is less than expected?

I turn to prayer when I don’t receive the support I expect. I’ve been let down so many times in my life I had to learn how to turn to God. He is the only one that can truly uplift my spirit. I cry, I pray, and then I get back to it.

What mark do you want to leave on the world?

I just want to leave a positive mark in some way. I am not sure what God has planned for me, but I want Him to use me to bring glory to His name.

What is your favorite thing that you and your daughter like to do together?

Jordynn and I like to play dress up and act silly together. We like to dance around the house and take pictures. We’re pretty goofy together and we just like to laugh and have fun.

What advice would you give to young mothers about living their dreams and being successful?

Your child is a blessing from God, a special one. Love them and guide them. Children don’t stop dreams, just put that baby on your hip and keep reaching for your goals.

Every FRIDAY you can expect a post on a featured DOPE Find from artists, jewelry designers, boutiques and more.

Today’s DOPE Find is Bodi Glitz!!!

Created by the creator to create.

Inspiring individuals to embrace their God given uniqueness one handcrafted piece at a time.

I allow my inner creative alter-ego to do her thing.

My daughter inspires to create. She is my light and I want to show her that all things are possible with God first mixed with hard work and commitment. I don’t ever want her to give up on her dreams. The start of Bodi Glitz came very unexpectedly, I’ve always created my entire life. From cutting pictures out of magazines and “designing” outfits with them to making key chains and selling them at a little stand in front of my house.

http://www.etsy.com/shop/bodiglitz

One day I decided to make some fabric wrapped hoops, just to be doing something. And I wore them out shopping and was stopped by at least three women wanting to know where I purchased my earrings from because they were interested in purchasing them. This took me by surprise because I had no idea they would catch the eye of others. So it went from one pair of hoops to multiple options of button and hoop earrings, watchbands, necklaces and now my newest creation of handcrafted wooden stud earrings.

I am very blessed to be able to express myself and have the support of others. I truly just love to create. Since launching my etsy site in late 2011, I have hosted two showcases, vended at multiple events locally, sponsored giveaways, collaborated with other positive brands such as The Journ3y, and I also had the honor to have of some of pieces featured in the new Robert Townsend movie “Playing for Love”.

http://www.etsy.com/shop/bodiglitz

Hmm, five years from now I see myself being more active in the community. I truly love what I am doing now, but I also feel like I can be doing so much more, especially for our youth. I want to inspire, I want to be a positive light for the ones traveling in the dark. I’ve been there so I want to be able to help the younger generation. As far as Bodi Glitz I hope that my pieces will be available in boutiques and I also want to complete school with a degree in business and fashion merchandising. God willing all things will come to past, but if He has another plan for me I will follow His lead.

http://www.etsy.com/shop/bodiglitz

Advice to aspiring entrepreneurs:

Do what you do best. Perfect your craft. Always look for a way to do better, be better. You’re in competition with no one. What God has for you is for you. But without work you can’t expect to excel.

Five words to describe my personality
- silly
- free-spirited
- caring
- positive
- creative

http://www.etsy.com/shop/bodiglitz

Favorite things to do

I like to shop in my grandmother’s closet and at thrift stores! Lol. I love vintage clothing. I’m not really into “fads” or trying to keep up with the Jones’. I just like to be myself and express myself through my clothing. I love colors, patterns, comfy shoes and high-waisted bottoms.

My favorite thing to do is hang out with my kid. She’s my best friend. Even though she’s only five, she has pretty good conversation skills and great taste in clothing when we go shopping.

To My Unborn Child,

I’ve always pictured parenthood to be this fairy tale story of how a family should. From my upbringing, I was quickly hit with the reality that life is truly what you make it.

I always thought that as a mother, one should put away her selfish ways to put her gem first. I always thought that a mother should give her last if her daughter was ever in need. I guess these thoughts were my own cry for help because it was something I longed for. My mother wasn’t always there when I needed her to be. I won’t blame her one bit but I will definitely make sure I do my very best to give you what I did not have.

I don’t want you to feel as though I grew up without. In fact, I may not have had the most as far as material things but my grandmother made sure I knew LOVE. She taught me how to feel as though I had everything no matter how big or small it may be. She taught me how to smile and see beauty in myself and others. The lessons I was taught growing up is what made me the woman I am today and for those lessons alone I can teach you LOVE in its entirety through the eyes of my living angel, my grandmother..

Love is the foundation of all things. Through love a mother is able to learn, forgive, grow, teach, help, heal, do and be. Because I am human, I may not get it right every single time but you are worth the practice. As your leader, teacher, mother and provider, I promise to simply be there. I promise to listen when you need to vent, make you laugh when you need to cry and dance every time you achieve greatness whether it’s in the form of an A in academics or learning how to tie your shoes successfully for the first time. I promise to hold your hand along the way in case of slip ups and difficulties. I promise to help you understand the beauty of your individuality and the importance of your presence.

I know that in my heart, you will save me from myself. You will show me my true purpose here on earth and define what it means to be a real woman. Through every obstacle I go through and every growth spurt I achieve, I thank God for you each day because I know those very lessons will prepare me to be the best me I can be for you. I am counting down the days it will take to be adorned by your love. Until then I will continue to grow for the love of my unborn child.

For the month of May there will be a weekly series dedicated to Young Mothers Making Moves! These women are phenomenal young mothers pursuing their dreams!

The next mother that I am honored to celebrate is

Ms. Ki’Yena Jacobs and her son Brock

Ki’Yena is a Queen that I look up to. She is very humble, encouraging and a woman after God’s own heart!

Please share your current job and/or degree you are seeking as well as your business endeavors and future projects!
I am an entrepreneur. I have a corporate career and business ventures as part of my personal brand that include being the co-owner of Karma’s Love Boutique and Hi Society, LLC, the Public Relations Director for The Zechariah Project, a Christian nonprofit organization, and creator and blogger for a women’s empowerment blog entitled QUEEN.

I have earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in Communications from the College of Charleston and a Masters of Arts in Business Management and Leadership from Webster University.

How has becoming a mother changed your perspective on life?
I wear many hats, but my favorite is being a mother. My son is my heart in human form. I have always been an enterprising person, but being a mother gives all my efforts purpose. I dream bigger, I appreciate life more; I work hard and with purpose, because I know my son looks up to and depends on me. I do not want my son to grow up not knowing what a great woman looks like. Along with God, he keeps me focused and thankful for it all.

What character traits do you hope to instill in your son?
My son already has several of my traits, which is a good and bad thing. Being a mother has taught me patience, although both of us still have to master that virtue. Outside of that however, first, I want my son to know God. I also want my son to have my work ethic. I want him to know nothing in life is handed to you. If you want it, you have to seek God first, trust His will, and work hard to do your part.

I want him to be a leader, an innovator, and someone who is able to inspire. No matter what his dreams and goals are in life, my goal as his mother is to bring out the best characteristics he posseses while being a great example as well.

What women have inspired you who are also mothers?
My mother is my biggest inspiration. She is my best friend. She is one of the hardest working people I know. However, the most inspiring quality about my mother is how selfless she is. I admire that in her. I have seen her give her last to help so many and remain humble through it all. I also admire First Lady Michelle Obama, Coretta Scott King, Pauletta Pearson Washington (Denzel Washington’s wife) and Phylicia Rashad. These women, including my mother, are wives, mothers, professional, philanthropist, activist, leaders, and true queens in every aspect of the word. I admire what they represent and I strive to leave the reputation of a phenomenal woman like each of them.

Has motherhood increased your drive and what things have you accomplished in your career?
Motherhood adds more responsibility to your life; and that is what I love about being a mother. Before I was a mother, I had goals and worked hard, but after I became a mother, I had purpose behind it all. Working with purpose is so fulfilling and meaningful. My drive and will to accomplish my goals has definitely increased because I am no longer living for myself and I’m appreciative of that.
In what ways has your son been a blessing/added to your life?
My son gives me purpose, brings me joy, keeps me on my toes, and focused. I love everything about him because he is so similar to me. My son is a personal gift from God, and there is no greater blessing than that.

What proud memories do you have with Brock?
I was very fortunate to be able to spend the first two years of my son’s life being an at home mother. We are very connected and I know it is because I was able to spend those critical years focused solely on him. He looks like me; we even share the same birthday month. Everything about him makes me proud and appreciative. Every memory we share is one I treasure. I am honored to be his mother.
What keeps you motivated when outside support is less than expected?
I am blessed because the support I have from my parents is a God send and I know everyone doesn’t have that. My parents have been together 30 years. They have taught me valuable lessons that they are able to share with my son as well. My support is never less than expected but what motivates me is to be a parent as my parents have been to me. They always exposed me to different cultures and environment, encouraged my dreams, and helped mold me into who I am today. I want that for my son. I want him to have a well-rounded life like I’ve been blessed with.

What mark do you want to leave on the world?
I constantly think about what my legacy will be. Primarily I want to be remembered as a child of God. I want to inspire, encourage, and be an example of a victorious woman. My life has not always been easy. I have had some painful times, but I’ve learned to be thankful for it all. Anything is possible with God being head of your life, and I want to be living proof of that. Whether my journey and testimony reaches the heart of one person or thousands, as long as it has touched someone, I give God the glory.
What is your favorite thing that you and your son like to do together?
We travel, a lot! He has a good time; I am exposing him to new things. It is a win, win situation.
What advice would you give to young mothers about living their dreams and being successful?
No one is prepared for motherhood. You can have multiple kids but each child and situation is different. My first advice would be to understand you are not expected to be perfect. Motherhood is a lifelong lesson. Next would be to find balance. You can be a mother and live out the rest of your dreams but the key is finding balance. I would also advise not to be afraid to seek help. Everyone needs help and you should not feel guilty for seeking it. Next, always keep your priorities in line. I know I am fortunate to be able to be a mother and accomplish my goals because I have a very balanced life and a support system.

If it is not that way for you, start slow, and prioritize. Outside of being a mother what is the next thing you would like to do? Focus and accomplish that. Once that is done, work on the next thing and keep going from there.

Lastly and most important, keep God first in all you do. God supplies all of your needs. Seek Him first in all you do and trust He will guide you. Deuteronomy 31:6.

For the month of May there will be a weekly series dedicated to Young Mothers Making Moves! These women are phenomenal young mothers pursuing their dreams!

The next mother that I am honored to celebrate is Ms. Janell McCovey and her son Chayse!

Janell is my sister, best friend and business partner.

Please share your current job and/or degree you are seeking as well as your business endeavors and future projects!

I am a Liberal Studies undergraduate at Southern Connecticut State University with a concentration in Psychology and Sociology. I have Co-founded an organization within my community called: Perfect Girls Ain’t Real (PGAR) which seeks to cultivate, educate, and empower young women in areas of: self esteem, health and wellness, spirituality, beauty and hygiene, scholarship and professional development.

In addition to PGAR, I am the creator and owner of Raw On Thirteenth LLC., an online fashion boutique specializing in men and women’s apparel and accessories.

These two business ventures have since, inspired me to create a line called: “Live On Purpose” which will launch this summer. This line, comprised of shirts (for women and girls), athletic wear, and mobile accessories, is truly the by-product of both my love for fashion and technology, and my passion for aiding in the discovery of purpose in the lives of young women.

How has becoming a mother changed your perspective on life?

Becoming a mother has changed my outlook on life from a solitary walk, to a coupled journey. I am my parent’s only child… Never had to share toys, clothes, or anything for that matter. Life was, from my eyes, all about me. It wasn’t until God yielded me with life in my womb, did I realize that this life is not just about me after all. It as if I had been living under water; though able to see, life was distorted, unclear, and I was just floating along. My son, Chayse, was my breath of life that allowed me to come up for air, and see things with clarity. Life just wouldn’t be complete without him. Sometimes it’s hard to imagine that he wasn’t always here. I am privileged to be his mother.

What character traits do you hope to instill in your child?

I hope to instill in Chayse, first and foremost the importance of maintaining a relationship with God. Life is meaningless without God as the top tier in your life. Second, resilience. Things won’t always happen as you expect, and life will teach you lessons that you’ll never learn from any textbook. It is my hope that he will push forward using life’s lessons to propel him from good…to better… to greatness! Lastly love. Do what you love, love what you do, and surround yourself with those that love you.

What women have inspired you who are also mothers?

My mother is my greatest inspiration. My mother is not only my backbone but the matriarch of our family. She has given her best, and I am forever grateful for her. She is a confidant, a teacher, a prayer partner, a doctor, and the list goes on. I couldn’t ask for a better example of what a mother is; I love her endlessly.

Has motherhood increased your drive and what things have you accomplished in your career?

Motherhood has certainly increased my drive. As a young mother, expectations of what your future holds become grim, through the eyes of others. You often hear of many unsuccessful stories about young parents. I want to set the record straight on behalf of young mothers. Success is still in your future! Let me be clear, in no way am I saying that it is easy; but I am saying that there are many SUCCESSFUL, YOUNG WOMEN whose stories aren’t shared enough.

I pray that my story and those like mine will change that. My son Chayse is my drive. Securing his future is what makes me relentless and making sure he sees a strong willed and determined woman as his mother is what motivates me to inspire other women, that your future is as bright as your dream.

In what ways has your son been a blessing/added to your life?

Chayse is anointed, and anyone that knows him knows that he loves two things: music and church! It’s a blessing to see him take on such musicality at the tender age of two. We sing songs together while he plays the drums or his keyboard. Watching him pray over his food or “shout” at church makes my heart leap because I know his spirit is rooted in Christ. I can’t wait to watch him grow even more into his own uniqueness.

What proud memories do you have with your son?

My proud memories of Chayse are when he began walking, talking and his first day at his “big boy daycare”. Children grow so fast. Literally, one minute you’re holding them, caressing their cheeks with your nose and the next they are running around the play yard and telling you “No!” When Chayse began walking and talking, it was the first displays of independence. Children are their own little people, and it brings such joy to watch them come into their own.

What keeps you motivated when outside support is less than expected?

When outside support is less than expected, I turn to the word of God. My relationship with God is my foundation. Even when others doubt, I know that I can do all things through Christ that gives me strength. I am motivated by the young women that I can inspire. I know my journ3y has not been in vain, so I am motivated by my aspirations. As long as God continues to impart wisdom and direction, I will continue to trust that it is for a greater purpose.

What mark do you want to leave on the world?

I want to leave hope. I want to plant seeds of hope in the hearts of young women, water them, and witness them grow to their fullest potential.

What is your favorite thing that you and your son like to do together?

My son and I love to dance! Any chance we get, we dance. Anywhere we are, we dance. We enjoy going to the park, blowing bubbles, coloring, and being around family.

What advice would you give to young mothers about living their dreams and being successful?

Advice that I’d like to share with other young mothers is to never give up on yourself. You are not defined by your past, you are the author of your future. Write it until your hand gets tired, visualize it until it shows up in your dreams, and live it like your life depended on it. You are purposed because despite your circumstance, you are still here. You deserve the very best. Your “mini-me” is baring witness to all that you do, so show them greatness… It starts with you.

God’s peace and blessings be with you always.

Title: Falling BLACK in Love

Author: Mike Phil

Reblogged from The Black Man Can

Once in an elevator I spotted a young lady. I was on my way to work and she was on her way to who knows where. At that moment, to quote The Godfather (one of my favorite movies), I was hit by the “thunderbolt”. Visually stunned, I took in her beauty. Her skin was a deep chocolate, her hair a kinky mass of velvet black, her teeth white like new Easter Sunday shoes. I think everyone in the elevator noticed my dazed glare. She looked at me in a questioning manner. Almost as if by some compulsion I blurted, “You’re so beautiful.” She smiled and appeared shocked. I think everyone including me was shocked. She was not the kind of girl who would understandably have men in such a state of adolescent panic. She was not some modelesque type with the generally accepted wow factor.
I can only do my best to describe what I felt at that moment. It makes no sense at all that I would feel that way about a total stranger. In five minutes of her presence I thought of things that hadn’t crossed my mind in all the years of my romantic relationships. I saw in her a wife, the mother of my children, the keeper of my house, and the comforter of my soul. She was like a vessel that swept me away to a place that I have never been, but had always been looking for. Home!

I pondered the entire day on what had happened inside of me. The misery I felt as she exited the elevator. What was it about this woman that had unraveled me so easily? It came to me suddenly that I loved her blackness. Every detail of her was unapologetically and beautifully black. Every part of me understood and appreciated every part of her. It was as if I had been living in a strange country my entire life and unexpectedly met someone from my homeland. This was in fact my first taste of Black Love.

The very nature of a black man is to love a black woman. I’ve come to realize it after that experience. He can love any woman, but not to the degree he can love a black woman. I state this with no reservation and remorse for those it might offend. For that brief moment I loved her hair, because it was the very hair that grew out of my own head. I loved her skin, because it was the same skin that covered my flesh. I saw her as the mother of my children, because I knew when I looked at their faces I wouldn’t be able to see my half or hers. I would only see us. At that moment I loved myself more because I was looking at everything that makes me amazing. I could never love a woman of another race that way.

Black men through history have tried to embrace their blackness through various means. They have marched, grown locks, and changed their last names to “X”. In my opinion, none of these actions hold a candle to the self-love he could achieve through loving a black woman. That truly is the most revolutionary act. It rages against everything this oppressive society has taught us. Loving a black woman in a society where she is rejected and devalued by European standards of beauty is the ultimate rebellion and reclamation of one’s self. To find her beautiful is to realize the true beauty in yourself and to boldly attest it to all. The act of Black Love erases all the injustices and imbalances that have shaped the black experience in this country. It’s the coming home for men who were once sold away repeatedly. It’s the validation and healing for women who were once treated as sexual objects for breeding and entertainment. No other union can achieve this.

All love is great! Feel free to love whoever you want, however you want. From this black man to all black men and women, I say BLACK LOVE IS THE BEST. We all can love ourselves by ourselves. Black love is the only way to be able to love and understand yourself, through someone else. It’s the best way to love our people in an apparent and passionate manner. This world constantly beats us down for who we are. Black men, the act of loving a black woman is the most violent resistance possible. Black women, the act of loving a black man is the most beautifying process you can undergo. So let’s love each other….”till the end of time.”

About the Author: Mike Phil of Miami. I’m a liberal, post racial, Agnostic, pro-feminist. I believe common sense is a refusal to individually reason. If legally permitted I would be a proactive Darwinist.

For the month of May there will be a weekly series dedicated to Young Mothers Making Moves! These women are phenomenal young mothers pursuing their dreams!

The first mother that I am honored to celebrate is Ms. Brittney Jimerson and her daughter Destiny!

Brittney is someone who I truly admire and look up to.

Please share your current job and/or degree you are seeking as well as your business endeavors and future projects!

I am currently an Industrial and System Engineering PhD student at North Carolina A&T State University and I just completed my Master’s Degree this past March and will be graduating this May!!

How has becoming a mother changed your perspective on life?

I had my daughter very young so I had to grow up fast. Many lessons I learned the hard way. One thing that I have learned after having my daughter is that being selfless is more important than always focusing on what Brittney wants. Everyday I want to make my daughter Destiny proud. Everything I do is for my daughter and I want her to see me as a strong, smart, and independent women that she wants to be like or be even better than someday.

What character traits do you hope to instill in your child?

I want to instill the importance of love for family, friends, life and people in general. I lead by example; I value being a good person that shows integrity and is honest. I also want to instill the importance of being confident and loving yourself. Most importantly I want her to pursue her life’s passion!

What women have inspired you who are also mothers?

My mother was a military wife; I witnessed her God-given strength firsthand. I want my daughter to know that if no one believes in you, your mom will always cheer you on. That is exactly how my mom makes me feel to this day. I hope to be as good as a mother as she has been to me. She teaches me things about being a mother that can’t be discovered on my own. I love my mom!! Also, my sister Danielle because I witness her juggle her hectic fast-paced career while being a wife and a wonderful mother to her two sons. We often share parenting techniques and ways to handle the stress of wearing so many hats in our lives. I’m very thankful to have such great role models in my life.

Has motherhood increased your drive and what things have you accomplished in your career?

Yes, my daughter is what keeps me going. I have completed more than I have imagined at this point in life and hope to accomplish much more. I have my Master’s Degree in Engineering and hope to have my PhD in Engineering before I am 30 years old. Having my daughter in my life has kept me focused on the prize so when everything is said and done, we can look back and see how far God brought us and enjoy the accomplishments, so that the cycle of achievement can continue through generation to generation.

In what ways has your daughter been a blessing/added to your life?

My daughter has been a blessing because she has built my character to have more drive, to be more loving and understanding, and my token of motivation at times when I feel like I can’t go anymore. When you know someone is always depending on you to succeed, failure is never an option.

What proud memories do you have with your daughter?

I have several proud memories with my daughter and continue to make them daily. My first one is her learning the fundamentals of life like walking, talking, reading, excelling in sports, and excelling in school. Destiny is so smart; we get so excited when she makes the honor roll. Every time my daughter feels some kind of accomplishment in her life it brings me so much joy and happiness. When I accomplish things like graduating or receiving awards and she is there to witnesses my accomplishments; those are proud moments as well.

What keeps you motivated when outside support is less than expected?

My belief in God and looking back at all the storms he has brought me through keeps me going. I have learned that in life, people will change and situations will change, but God is always constant and never leaves your side. I try to stay connected with my faith so I don’t feel the need to depend on no one , but God.

What mark do you want to leave on the world?

I want to leave the mark of paying it forward, being a blessing in someone’s life and motivating them to make their dreams a reality. I am currently working with my friend Tiffany to start a nonprofit for teens, more info to come later!! I love to watch someone, especially a child, put forth an effort towards a goal and actually achieve that goal. That’s one of the most rewarding things I can imagine as a mentor.

What is your favorite thing that you and your daughter like to do together?

My daughter Destiny and I love to run at the park, fun days at an amusement park, shopping, going to the movies, dinner dates and especially having our mani and pedi dates together!

What advice would you give to young mothers about living their dreams and being successful?

Don’t let anyone tell you are not going to accomplish whatever your heart desires. Motherhood is an enhancer in your life not a constraint. You have to wake up everyday and push even harder because you actually have your own personal cheerleader(s) cheering you one, watching and learning from the great characteristics that you possess. You always have to keep in mind that everyone has potential and everyone is one idea from being a millionaire. Furthermore always keep God first and you will always be blessed throughout life.

Hey ladies,

My name is Nakisha! I have a blog called Georgia’s Peach that I would love for you to visit. Here’s my guest post; I hope you enjoy it!

We live in such a society where everyone has become too busy to simply just enjoy life. Most of our time is spent on our various mobile devices, and the demand to meet numerous deadlines that keeps us constantly on the go.

Eventually, maintaining a schedule like this becomes a habit and we miss out on large portions of time that could have been spent enjoying life. In a super fast paced, anti-pen and paper society, my suggestion is to log off, find a serene space where you are accompanied only by your imagination, and write down everything that comes to mind, NO EXCEPTIONS!

Visit this space often, writing down your dreams and goals, making lists of of all the things you wish to accomplish, and all of your desires. Nothing is too wild to be included!

Writing things down makes them concrete in an entirely different way than just thinking about them or even speaking them out loud. Post your lists all around so that you see them often, and most importantly, follow through!

Visit Nakisha’s Blog

Every FRIDAY you can expect a post on a featured DOPE Find from artists, jewelry designers, boutiques and more. Today’s DOPE Find is The BADD & BEAUTIFUL!!!

BandB represents the woman with an eclectic sense of style who loves fashion and who is, most importantly, unique.

She is sexy, independent, daring, and sophisticated.

Be Badd. Be Beautiful. Be YOU!

Rhiannon and her mother decided to launch The Badd and The Beautiful last December because the timing felt right. My dream is to be an entrepreneur and I absolutely love fashion, so it was a perfect marriage. I was strongly motivated by the quote “Do what you can, where you are, with what you have”. For me this spoke volumes, I learned the importance of being innovative and making the best of my situation. The name The Badd and The Beautiful was inspired by a picture caption I saw on Tumblr. It perfectly embodied the type of woman I wanted my boutique to represent.

http://www.baddandbeautiful.com/

The Badd and The Beautiful focuses on outfitting our Baddies and Beauties in affordable, trendy clothing allowing them to be versatile. The Badd and The Beautiful is growing and becoming more successful daily thanks to our loyal clients and unwavering support from family and friends. It warms my heart to think about all the positivity we have received, and it feels great to have others believe and trust in our vision. I am truly blessed to be able to live my dreams everyday and have the opportunity to inspire others to live theirs as well.

http://www.baddandbeautiful.com/

The Badd and The Beautiful has been blessed to be a part of events such as the Uprising, Fishers High School Fashion Show, and many more to come! It has also been an honor to partner with the Journ3y on the creation of Baddie Bows. I greatly value supporting community events and fellow entrepreneurs and will always hold that as great importance to The Badd and The Beautiful.

http://thejourn3y.bigcartel.com/

In 5 years I see The Badd and The Beautiful having a noted online fashion presence and also multiple store locations. I also foresee The Badd and The Beautiful opening doors for other business ventures I am passionate about.

Advice to aspiring entrepreneurs:

Be fearless, relentless, humble and stay true to yourself. Go after your dreams and avoid negativity by surrounding yourself with people who support you. Nothing about being an entrepreneur is easy, but the benefits are endless. Always be patient and know greatness takes time.

Rejoice in your mistakes and use them to your advantage. Focus on building your brand and giving your customers a unique, memorable experience. Your customers are your lifeline, so you should do everything with them in mind! When days are hard, remind yourself that God gave you your dreams for a reason and you never know who he may use you to inspire. Above all else, PRAY!

http://www.baddandbeautiful.com/

The thing that inspires me each day is striving to be an inspiration to others and living my God-given purpose. I am also inspired by women who have blazed trails before me and are living proof that dreams come true with hard work. The five words I would use to describe myself would be ambitious, genuine, loving, positive, and vibrant. When I am not shopping at The Badd and The Beautiful, I enjoy thrifting and finding unique items online or in boutiques. One of my favorite things to do is EAT! I absolutely love going to new restaurants and trying new cuisines.

In this day and age, it can be easy to become confused about one's self worth when certain images and ideals of beauty are constantly displayed in the media. As women, we are constantly bombarded with magazines that advertise things such as, "how to lose weight" or "how to make yourself more desirable to men." Not only that but sometimes we as women can attack each other based off of our own insecurities with ourselves.
