We Applaud You,
Ms. Andrea Polk, Owner of Solo Noir for Men shares her journ3y to becoming a confident business woman by overcoming obstacles and allowing failure to be her strongest motivator.
1. What is the name of your business?
Solo Noir is a complete grooming line for ethnic men featuring 100% organic 2-in-1 grooming products to make grooming simple. For years the male ethnic skin care market has been overlooked and Solo Noir is the solution to the markets void. We formulate organic skin care products that help moisturize the skin, assist in the prevention of ingrown hairs, soften course facial hair, and promote smooth skin. We offer unique skin care products that do not create a dependency on usage like most chemical skin care products in the industry. We focus on promoting a healthy lifestyle for our consumers while providing them with the products and tools to do so.
Solo Noir isn’t just a skin care product it’s a lifestyle. I challenge you to create your own “Definition of a Man” by using Solo Noir for men grooming products.
2. What was the moment you realized this was a part of you and it had to be done?
When I failed at my first attempt to business ownership, and during my hiatus all I could think about was the business and how I gave up. When I began pursuing Solo Noir things began to fall into place from me finding a manufacturer, to building a strong team, to finally getting the confidence to stand proud and trust in my vision. Solo Noir was something that was meant to be and it has always been a part of my life. Everything I have done in the past has placed me in this very position as the Owner of this company. When I studied at Tennessee State University I had no idea how I would utilize my talents but little did I know God had a plan for my future, he directed me into a Marketing Degree, a Master’s in Supply Chain Management, and now a Degree in Aesthetics, all which are great foundations for being an owner of a skin care line.
3. What made you turn the idea for the business into a finished product?
The thought of not pursuing my passion and not following God’s plan for me urged me to put things in order. An idea is just a thought, but will never come to fruition without action or effort. Do you know the difference between a millionaire and dreamer? The difference is a millionaire puts in effort and utilizes their resources to become successful, while a dreamer has an idea or vision but never puts fourth effort to pursue their dream.
4. What personal developments lead to your business?
Being confident, overcoming my weaknesses of public speaking, feeling uninspired and lacking initial support from others. Once I overcame the things that held me back I begin to make progress with Solo Noir. The more confident I felt the more motivated and successful I became.
8. How have you made a difference in the lives of others?
I strive to make a difference in the lives of others every day, through providing the Solo Noir platform to launch others careers and positioning the brand so that I can continue to offer a platform for others to utilize their talents toward.
